Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok (1933 – 2004) was one of the greatest Tertons (terma treasure revealers) of the 20th Century. He is seen here wearing a Garuda or Khyung thokcha. The large cylindrical metal object worn at his waist most likely holds a Phurba.

Collected mainly from the Dolpo region of Western Nepal.
Recently aquired from the Jerome Mitchell Collection

Gau Thokcha
This piece appears to look like a gau
or portable shrine amulet. It has an amazing
patina and is worn smooth from
centuries of wear.
